Meet Rajen from Procurement
Rajen joined the procurement team in Leicester during June 2011 for a 12-month placement. He works as a Procurement Systems Analyst. He is taking a mathematics degree at Sheffield Hallam University.
Why did you decide to join PepsiCo?
I wanted to work at a blue chip company and I knew that PepsiCo is in the top 50 companies in the UK. They have a lot of detail about the company on the website so it gave me a good background into what to expect. I read the testimonials from other students and thought "that would be a great place to spend my intern year".
What was the assessment like?
I was nervous but I was put immediately at ease. I knew 55 people applied for the role, so knew there was going to be stiff competition. But everyone was very friendly!
What do you do on a typical day?
I write daily and weekly financial reports for my manager and arrange payment at certain pick-up points.
What's your manager like?
Very supportive and encouraging. I'm only the second intern they've had in this role, but my responsibilities are very clearly defined.
Best thing about PepsiCo?
You are encouraged to learn about the wider business and how your role fits into it. They also have a great mentoring system which gives you that extra support should you need it.
Worst thing about working for PepsiCo?
I sometimes feel a little isolated from the rest of the students, as I'm the only intern in my office. It does make us arrange to meet up more often to exchange ideas, experiences and also have fun!
What are your fellow placement students like? How important have they been in settling in?
My fellow students are great. We all met at the 'on-boarding' day where we had great ice-breaking games.
How would you sum up working with PepsiCo?
At PepsiCo, you are made to feel like you make a difference. It doesn't matter that you are a student.
