Meet Chandni from R&D
Chandni joined the R&D team as a Process Redesign Technician in late July 2011. She's studying towards a Masters in Chemical Engineering at Birmingham University and will be with PepsiCo until July 2012.
Why did you decide to join PepsiCo?
I'm actually doing a Masters so I was looking for an internship that would challenge me. I attended lots of talks at my university and popped into a talk about PepsiCo. I was so inspired that I wanted to find out more about the company. The website was full of information, easy to navigate and when I read about last year's interns I thought "yes that's a place that I'd like to work with", so I applied for an internship!
What was the assessment like?
It was relaxed and friendly. I was put at ease. The interviewees were very bubbly – they carried on with the inspiring story I had heard at my university talk.
What do you do on a typical day?
Every day varies. I've already been abroad to Belgium to help out with trials. I love going abroad so I was excited to be travelling with work! I have lots of projects to work on so I work with various teams. Each team ensures I am involved and I can see where my work integrates with theirs.
Best thing about PepsiCo?
It's a very relaxed atmosphere. Everyone is interested in what you are doing and wants to help. My fellow students are a great bunch. As well as getting on professionally we all get on socially. PepsiCo held an 'on-boarding day' so we all got to know each other fairly quickly. That was a fun day!
I think I want a career in the food industry so having a placement at PepsiCo will be an invaluable experience for me.
Any advice for potential applicants?
My advice to people thinking about internships is to make sure you join an organisation that you believe in and undertake work that is of interest to you. A year is a long time to spend in an environment that doesn't interest or challenge you. Luckily PepsiCo does both for me!
How would you sum PepsiCo up?
There are endless possibilities at PepsiCo. They certainly live up to their promises!
