Meet Adam from R&D

Adam joined the R&D team as a Process Technician in July 2011. He will be with PepsiCo for his year in industry, and is studying Chemical Engineering degree at Loughborough University.

Why did you decide to join PepsiCo?

I want to work in a large global corporation, so PepsiCo is a great choice. I saw a poster about PepsiCo at my university and I decided to find out more about them. Everyone has heard of their products: Walkers, Tropicana, Quakers and Pepsi so I knew I'd be working for a large, well-known company.

What do you do on a typical day?

I'm working in commercially sensitive areas of the business so there isn't a typical day as such. The day can include factory visits looking at trials, undertaking research or visits to suppliers. Everyone is actively encouraged to learn about the business so they see how their section fits into the bigger picture.

Best thing about PepsiCo?

All the students were given a grand tour of the PepsiCo facilities. We saw that the company invests in the very best technology. I've visited some of the other sites around the UK and can say that PepsiCo certainly has state-of-the-art facilities.

Worst thing about working for PepsiCo?

There are snack stations around the offices so I could say that I may now eat too many of their products!

What are your fellow placement students like? How important have they been in settling in?

They're just great. My student colleagues are supportive, interesting and enthusiastic about the work we are responsible for delivering. As I'm spending a year here, it's really important that I work with people that enjoy what they do. This is certainly true at PepsiCo.

How would you sum up PepsiCo?

The thing that stuck me most is there's little hierarchy at PepsiCo. Your ideas and input is welcomed and valued. I'm working on a new initiative, so in months to come when I see this in shops, I can say "I worked on that" – not many interns can say that.
